Acupuncture is safe when performed by trained professionals. Pregnant women, patients with pacemakers, lymphedema or low platelet count should inform their acupuncturist before starting treatment.
Our goal is to provide relief with few side effects. The side effects of acupuncture are limited to bruising and a mild sensation around the site of application that will go away quickly. Most patients find the treatment so relaxing that they fall asleep. A positive result should and can be noticed after your first treatment
Acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible, so most people only experience a minimal amount of discomfort, if any, during the treatment. The sensation that people feel during acupuncture is often described as a dull ache, tingling, or numbness. While the insertion of the needle may cause a slight prick or pinch, it typically does not cause significant pain or discomfort. Acupuncture is generally a safe and well-tolerated treatment, and any discomfort or pain that is experienced during the treatment is usually mild and short-lived. If you have concerns about the potential discomfort associated with acupuncture, you can speak with your acupuncturist beforehand to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
Yes, All the needles are individually packaged, single use, and sterile. Prior to each treatment, the acupuncturist will open a new, sealed package of needles in front of the patient to ensure that they are sterile and have not been contaminated in any way.
An initial acupuncture session will include a thorough medical history intake and examination to determine the Traditional Oriental Medicine diagnoses. Next, the acupuncture needles will be inserted into specific acupuncture points. Follow-up acupuncture sessions include a brief medical history intake followed by needle insertion. Patients are typically lying downon a comfortable exam bed with the needles for approximately 50 minutes per session.
The treatment duration can vary depending on the symptoms.
Typically, treatments are once or twice a week for 8-12 sessions, representing one course. Commonly, patients will report improvements after just a few treatments, but the relief may not be lasting. Therefore, patients are encouraged to finish the initial course of treatments. For more complex, long-standing conditions, a longer duration of treatment may be recommended. After finishing the initial course, we will discuss further acupuncture treatments and the frequency of the treatment based on your individual needs.
